Impossible Instruments is a body of work that moves between music, visual art, and poetry. Its conceptual premise proposes that existing instruments are insufficient – that there are sounds, forms of music, and modes of playing for which no instruments yet exist.

I asked three of my favourite poets (Pauliina Haasjoki, Sini Silveri and Henriikka Tavi) to imagine an “impossible instrument” and describe it to me. In addition, I interviewed my child about a pre-existing fictional instrument. Based on the texts, I created visualisations that are now on display at Haihara Art Centre. The work is part of Taidevaltakunta (Art Realm) biennial, this time organised by Tampere Art Museum. It’s open til August 16th.
